Dubai Increases Speed Limits on Al Amardi and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Streets
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with the Dubai Police General HQ, has announced adjustments to speed limits on key roads, effective from 30th September 2024.
The speed limit on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will be raised to 100 km/h between Dubai Al Ain Road and the Academic City Roundabout. Between the roundabout and Al Khawaneej Street, it will increase to 90 km/h. Meanwhile, Al Amardi Street will see a standardized limit of 90 km/h from Al Khawaneej Street to Emirates Road.
These changes follow a thorough engineering and technical study aimed at enhancing road safety and traffic flow on the newly expanded and developed streets. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street has undergone significant improvements, including the development of overpasses, with full completion expected by 2030. Al Amardi Street has also been expanded, with service roads added and intersections transformed for improved safety.
The RTA’s speed adjustments align with global best practices and are guided by the Dubai Speed Management Manual. The manual factors in road design, traffic volumes, pedestrian activity, and accident rates to ensure optimal speed limits.
In preparation for the changes, the RTA will update all relevant road signs and markings according to approved traffic safety standards. These updates form part of Dubai’s continuous efforts to enhance road safety and maintain efficient traffic flow across the city.
