Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism Recognizes 153 Hotels for Sustainable Practices with DST Stamp
The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has awarded the Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) Stamp to 153 hotels in its second cycle, marking a significant 118% increase from last year’s inaugural edition.
The initiative, launched in July 2023, highlights hotels that excel in sustainable practices, contributing to Dubai’s vision for a greener future.
The DST Stamp evaluates hotels based on 19 sustainability criteria, including energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste management. Hotels undergo independent assessments to ensure they meet high environmental standards. The program features a three-tier recognition system, with 18 hotels earning the gold tier, 64 achieving silver, and 71 receiving bronze.
The award ceremony, held on 26 February at Atlantis The Royal, celebrated the achievements of leading hotels like Atlantis, The Palm; Jumeirah Al Qasr; and Le Royal Méridien Beach Resort & Spa. These hotels, among others, play a crucial role in Dubai’s broader sustainability goals, supporting the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).
Yousuf Lootah, CEO of DET’s Corporate Strategy and Performance, emphasized the initiative’s importance in establishing Dubai as a global leader in sustainable tourism. He commended both the winners and nominees for their ongoing efforts to improve environmental performance.
In line with the UAE’s sustainability objectives, the DST Stamp helps advance efforts like the Dubai Can initiative and the DUBAI REEF project, showcasing the city’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing its role in global environmental conservation.
Hotels receiving the DST Stamp must maintain their sustainability efforts for the certification’s one-year validity, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with Dubai’s green agenda.
