Dubai Municipality has awarded AED2.5 billion in contracts for five major stormwater infrastructure projects under Phase Two of the Tasreef Programme, as the emirate moves to strengthen drainage capacity and climate resilience.

The projects, launched in line with directives from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, will cover approximately 430 million square metres across 30 key areas and are designed to support an estimated population of three million residents by 2040.

Contracts have been awarded to international infrastructure firms, including China State Construction Engineering Corporation and DeTech Contracting, alongside consultancy partners. The package includes three construction contracts and two agreements covering design and feasibility studies.

The new phase builds on earlier contracts issued in April 2025 and forms part of Dubai’s broader strategy to modernise infrastructure and enhance preparedness for extreme weather and rapid urban expansion. The initiative aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and national climate neutrality objectives.

Major works will include the construction of a drainage tunnel up to four metres in diameter connecting communities along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Yalayis Road to the main stormwater network. Authorities will also develop an integrated drainage system extending more than 27 kilometres between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Jamayel Road to serve industrial and logistics zones.

Additional components include a new pumping station and drainage tunnel along Dubai–Al Ain Road, as well as design work for integrated stormwater and groundwater systems in Al Marmoom and Saih Al Salam.

Officials said the projects will reduce flood risks, improve system efficiency, and support sustainable urban development while enhancing quality of life for residents. The works form part of the wider AED30 billion Tasreef Programme, one of Dubai’s flagship long-term infrastructure initiatives aimed at strengthening resilience against climate challenges and supporting continued growth.
