DMCC has announced plans to join the Natural Diamond Council (NDC) in 2026, a move that will align the world’s largest diamond trading hub with the leading global body responsible for promoting natural diamonds. The decision comes as the industry works to reinforce consumer confidence and stabilise demand amid shifting market dynamics.
The announcement was made during Mining Indaba in Cape Town at the second high-level meeting of the Luanda Accord — a framework signed in Angola in June 2025. The accord commits producer governments and key industry stakeholders to jointly invest in the global promotion of natural diamonds. Led by the NDC, it includes major participants such as DMCC and De Beers Group.
The meeting was attended by ministers from Angola, Botswana, Namibia, and Sierra Leone, underscoring strong government backing for the initiative. Namibia formally joined the Luanda Accord during the session, while India’s Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council signed a memorandum of understanding setting out a pathway to NDC membership by May 2026.
DMCC’s decision comes at a time when the diamond industry faces structural pressures, including evolving consumer preferences, growing competition, and heightened scrutiny over provenance and responsible sourcing. By joining the NDC, DMCC aims to contribute to coordinated global efforts focused on strengthening consumer trust and supporting sustainable long-term demand for natural diamonds.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, said the move reflects Dubai’s prominent role in the international diamond trade and its commitment to advancing transparency, responsible sourcing practices, and sustained consumer confidence.
Membership in the NDC remains subject to agreement on financial contributions and the completion of internal legal and regulatory procedures. The latest commitments signal a broader international effort to bolster collective marketing initiatives and enhance the long-term resilience of the natural diamond sector.
