Kenya is grappling with the devastating aftermath of weeks of relentless rainfall and severe flooding, which have claimed at least 108 lives, according to the country’s National Police Service.

The crisis began on the evening of March 6, when flash floods swept through multiple regions, leaving a trail of destruction. Dozens of vehicles have been carried away, air travel has faced disruptions, and critical power infrastructure has suffered significant damage.

Authorities report that more than 2,700 families have been displaced nationwide. Although rainfall has subsided in some areas, officials warn that the danger is far from over. Blocked drainage systems and waterlogged soil continue to heighten the risk of further flooding, leaving many communities exposed.

Daily life has been severely affected, with schools forced to close, roads rendered impassable, and business activities disrupted, particularly in low-lying and informal settlements.

Emergency response teams remain deployed across affected areas, closely monitoring conditions. Officials have indicated that further evacuations may be necessary if the rains persist.

While seasonal flooding is not uncommon in Kenya, the scale and intensity of this disaster have raised serious concerns about preparedness and the vulnerability of populations living in flood-prone regions.

Authorities are urging residents in high-risk areas to stay alert and strictly follow official safety guidance, cautioning that the situation could deteriorate if heavy rains continue.
