Residents of Khan Younis have reported heavy fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian fighters in the southern city after Israel’s military launched a new ground assault on the area.
At least 89 Palestinians have been killed and 250 others wounded in the assault. Residents said they only had a couple of minutes to flee after Israeli forces ordered them to “immediately” evacuate from eastern areas of the city to al-Mawasi.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in Washington, DC, where he is to address the United States Congress and meet with President Joe Biden as well as presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
At least 39,090 people have been killed and 90,147 injured in Israel’s war on Gaza. The death toll in Israel from the Hamas-led attacks on October 7 is estimated at 1,139 with dozens of people still held captive in Gaza.
