30 Palestinians have been killed as Israeli soldiers storm the Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood of the city, with their offensive, says Gaza Civil Defence spokesperson, Mahmoud Bassal, with bodies filling the streets.
The forced displacement of Gaza City residents is causing “mass suffering”, says UN spokesperson. More than 300,000 Palestinians are estimated to reside in the north of the war-torn territory, according to the UN’s humanitarian aid agency.
Gaza’s Interior Ministry says Israeli orders for Palestinians to leave the city are a form of “psychological warfare” against civilians as people have nowhere safe to go.
Ceasefire talks continue in Doha, Qatar, as efforts to end the nine-month war are hampered by Israeli attacks on UN facilities and schools in Gaza, and as mass forced displacement intensify and hospitals are forced to close.
At least 38,295 people have been killed and 88,241 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from the Hamas-led attacks on October 7 is estimated at 1,139, and dozens of people are still held captive in Gaza.
