The war involving Iran, Israel, and the United States entered its 17th day on Monday, 16 March 2026, with continued air raids, drone interceptions across the Gulf, and rising civilian casualties. The conflict has increasingly spread beyond Iran and Israel, affecting several Middle Eastern countries and raising concerns about a wider regional escalation.

New Israeli Strikes on Tehran

Israeli forces launched another wave of air attacks on the Iranian capital, Tehran, targeting what officials described as strategic military positions. Iranian state media reported that the country’s air defence systems were activated in response to “hostile targets in the skies.”

The Iranian Red Crescent Society said the strikes damaged one of its clinics and a humanitarian relief station. Iranian authorities also reported that 1,444 people have been killed and more than 18,500 injured since the war began.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, rejected claims that Tehran is seeking negotiations. In an interview with CBS News, he stated that Iran has not asked for a ceasefire and is prepared to continue defending itself for as long as necessary.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier-General Ali Mohammad Naini, claimed that the country’s missile arsenal remains largely intact and that many of Iran’s more advanced weapons have not yet been used in the war.

Drone Incidents Across the Gulf

The conflict’s impact has spread across the Gulf region. Authorities in Dubai confirmed that a fire broke out near Dubai International Airport after a drone-related incident damaged a fuel tank. Flights were temporarily suspended but later resumed on a limited schedule.

In the emirate of Fujairah, officials also reported a fire in an industrial area following another suspected drone strike.

A missile strike in Abu Dhabi hit a vehicle and killed a Palestinian resident, marking one of the first confirmed fatalities in the UAE linked to the conflict.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said it intercepted 37 drones over its eastern region. Other Gulf states including Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar also reported intercepting drones over the weekend.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone call to discuss the deteriorating security situation, reaffirming that Gulf Cooperation Council states would continue efforts to defend their territories.

US Claims Iran’s Military Power Is Weakening

Speaking aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump said American forces had targeted Iran’s drone factories and claimed the country’s military capability had been significantly weakened.

In a post on the social platform Truth Social, Trump accused Iran of using artificial intelligence to spread misinformation about its military successes. He also claimed that some videos circulating online showing Iranian attacks on ships were fabricated.

Missile Alerts in Israel

Air raid sirens were activated in central and southern Israel after a missile was launched from Iran. According to Israeli authorities, the projectile landed in an open area and no casualties were reported.

Fighting Expands in Iraq and Lebanon

In Iraq, an air strike targeted the headquarters of the pro-Iranian Popular Mobilisation Forces in the Jurf al-Sakhar area, injuring three people. Iraqi air defences also intercepted drones near the United States Embassy Baghdad and the Balad airbase.

In Lebanon, Israel intensified its attacks on positions linked to Hezbollah and announced limited ground operations in the south of the country. The reported death toll in Lebanon has now reached 850 people, including more than 100 children.

The peacekeeping mission United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said three of its patrols were fired upon by non-state armed groups on Sunday, raising additional concern about the safety of international forces operating in the area.

Growing Regional Concern

With attacks and interceptions reported across multiple countries, analysts warn that the conflict is increasingly becoming a regional war rather than a bilateral confrontation between Iran and Israel. Gulf states remain on high alert as drone and missile threats continue to spread across the region.
