Former Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has died at the age of 68. His death was confirmed by his political party, the Patriotic Front, on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Lungu passed away at Mediclinic Medforum Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, where he had been receiving specialized medical treatment.
Lungu served as Zambia’s sixth president from January 2015 until August 2021, when he was succeeded by Hakainde Hichilema following a general election. Prior to his presidency, Lungu held various ministerial positions, including Minister of Defence and Minister of Justice.
