MADRID- Real Madrid have fined midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni €500,000 each following a dressing-room altercation that left Valverde requiring hospital treatment.
The Spanish club confirmed on Friday that no sporting sanctions would be imposed, saying the fines conclude the club’s internal disciplinary process.
Valverde will miss Sunday’s El Clasico against FC Barcelona after suffering a head injury during the incident. Real Madrid said the Uruguay international is expected to be sidelined for up to two weeks.
Tchouameni returned to training on Friday and remains available for selection.
In a statement, Madrid said both players expressed remorse and apologised to teammates, coaching staff and supporters.
Spanish media reported tensions escalated during training sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, culminating in a confrontation inside the dressing room.
Valverde later denied reports of physical violence between the pair, saying he suffered a minor forehead cut after accidentally hitting a table during the argument.
The incident comes amid mounting pressure at Madrid, who trail Barcelona by 11 points in the La Liga title race and are facing a second straight season without major silverware.
