Dubai Mallathon concluded on Sunday after a month of citywide activity that drew over 40,000 participants and set a Guinness World Record, reinforcing Dubai’s standing as a global hub for innovative community events.
Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the initiative transformed nine shopping centres into indoor fitness tracks, where participants collectively logged more than 120 million steps. The record was achieved during the closing run at Dubai Hills Mall, with 1,392 runners taking part.
Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, praised the initiative for its strong turnout and record-setting achievement, highlighting the role of young people in shaping a healthier, more active future for the nation.
Khalfan Belhoul, Vice President of the Dubai Sports Council, said the milestone underscored Dubai’s commitment to creating impactful community sports initiatives.
The closing event featured a 42-kilometre marathon, with Victor Kiprono securing first place, followed by Godfrey Segule and Rio Watson, a participant from the People of Determination. Special races, including a women’s run marking Emirati Women’s Day, added to the programme’s inclusivity.
Organised with the support of the Ministry of Defence and Dubai Sports Council, the Mallathon aligned with Dubai’s Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the Year of Community, embedding sport into daily life and fostering cohesion across society.
