Dubai Police Enforces Hefty Penalties for Lane Discipline Violations
Dubai Police has issued a stern reminder to motorists to adhere strictly to lane discipline, warning of substantial fines and vehicle impoundment for those failing to comply.
The announcement comes as part of an intensified enforcement campaign, utilizing smart traffic cameras to detect and penalize violators across Dubai’s roadways. According to the police, motorists who do not stay within their designated lane are subject to a fine of Dh400 and a 14-day vehicle impoundment, as stipulated under Article 86 of the UAE’s Federal Traffic Law of 2017.
The police also released a video clip showing footage from traffic cameras, highlighting the dangers posed by drivers who break lane discipline, endangering both themselves and other road users. The move aims to enhance road safety and curb reckless driving behaviors that contribute to accidents.
Dubai Police further emphasized that starting from October this year, additional penalties will be applied to certain serious traffic offenses. Offenses such as using mobile phones while driving, tailgating, and sudden deviation can now result in vehicle impoundment for up to 30 days. Under the federal traffic law, these infractions carry fines ranging from Dh400 to Dh1,000 and add four black points to a driver’s record. However, with the new amendments, a 30-day vehicle impoundment is now enforced in Dubai as an additional deterrent.
The enforcement of these measures reflects Dubai Police’s commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing accidents through strict adherence to traffic regulations. Motorists are urged to stay vigilant and comply with the rules to avoid penalties and contribute to safer roadways in Dubai.
